1095 Market was one of the only buildings standing after the devasting 1906 earthquake.
​​The Grant Building, built in 1904, has ceramic walls 2.5 feet thick and 
withstood unscathed the earthquakes of 1906 (see photo) and 1989. 
​
Shaping San Francisco, a community history project, was founded in the Grant Building in 1994.
In the late 2010s the building was gutted and renovated and converted into a Japanese-owned Yotel.
